He is a gay rights lawyer who is also licensed in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and in Colorado.
Jonas limits his practice to the following areas:
1. LGBT wills, trusts and real property issues. This includes providing legal counsel with regard to last wills and testaments, living wills, durable powers of attorney, health care surrogate designations, nominations of preneed guardians, declarations regarding final disposition of dead human bodies, revocable living trusts, sperm donation agreements, co-guardianing fka co-parenting agreements, real estate deeds, surrogate agreements, and numerous related legal documents.
2. Litigation involving same-sex life partners. These actions often include partition actions for jointly owned property as well as constructive trust litigation. Jonas represents LGBT partners at injunctions for domestic violence hearings and administers summary and formal probate administrations. He helps partners petition for name changes and handles related LGBT issues.
3. Mediation involving lesbian and gay life partners. These mediations often involve partition and constructive trust issues or breach of contract claims. Some involve shared custody or co-parenting of minors when same-sex partnerships are deemed over by one partner. Although these matters are family law in nature, in Florida, they are not addressed by family law courts. Often, life partners have entered into private contracts or agreements to submit such matters to mediation and Jonas Urba, as a Florida Supreme Court Certified Circuit Civil and County Court Mediator, helps life partners reach a mutually agreeable resolution.
